Welcome to Mrs. Gunther's Page!
Thanks for visiting our class page! I'm so excited for my class this year! I have a terrific bunch of kiddos and we're learning so much every day! I usually post important things on our private Facebook page, but I'd like to give you a brief overview of what our class will be like this year.
We start out our year learning our letters and sounds. We learn how to write these letters as well. Once we have a good grasp of these letters and sounds, we start to put them together to make words! We start with simple 1-vowel words (cat, hop, bed) and slowly work our way up to 2-vowel words (cake, hope, bead). We also learn special sounds (ck in clock, e in me, y in fly) as we start to learn these words as well. We have a lot of fun learning to read and write and I'm always amazed at how much these precious kiddos learn during our year together!
We learn basic addition in math, talk about patterns, talk about simple probability, learn about sorting and grouping, and so much more in our math class!
We have a Science and Social Studies class that help us learn about our world around us. We discuss what God made and how He created things to work in science. Social Studies gives us a great idea of people that help our community. We talk about people that live in different countries around the world and we try to imagine what it would be like to live there. I love being able to give these kids a small glimpse of our whole world.
We love to sing our Bible songs and learn our Bible verses. Our Bible lessons each week teach us the truths from God's Word. We have Chapel every week. I'm excited to see how the Lord grows each of these kids this year. We will learn a Bible verse weekly. We learn our verses from the KJV. This week's (January 16-20) verse is Psalm 23:3 "He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake."
Once a week we will have music class with Miss D. She's a fabulous music teacher and the kids love her!! We also will have a library time with Mrs. Parker. She will help us look at books that are for our age-group and teach us how to behave in the library. The kids enjoy hearing stories from her and acting like the big kids by going to the school library!
I hope this gives you an idea of our classroom. Feel free to come by anytime and take a peek at our day. We do our best to have lots of fun while we're learning to make sure we have the best foundation as we grow up!
