We are looking forward to our school Christmas concert on Tuesday, December 14 at 7pm. The 1st through 12th grades will be participating in the concert. We will be enjoying songs from our bands and choirs. We hope you will join for this pleasant evening as we enjoy the “Sounds of Christmas”.
Below is a listing of the music to be performed.
HS Band:
Carol of the Bells, Leontovich/Wilhousky, arr. Andrew Balent
Christmas Nocturne (Stille Nacht), FJ Gruber, arr. James Curnow
ES Band:
Jingle Bells, Traditional, arr. O’Reilly/Williams
Handbells:
Bring a Torch, Jeanette, Isabella, Traditional French carol, arr. Wagner
ES Choir:
Pat-a-pan, Burgundian Carol/J. Paul Williams, arr. David Lantz III
Troika Ride, Ukranian Folk Song, arr. Jerry DePuit
A troika is a type of sled drawn by three horses side by side, traditionally found in countries like Russia and the Ukraine.
HS Choir:
Riu, Riu, Chiu, 16th century Spanish villancico
This piece, though sometimes attributed to Mateo Flecha (d. 1553), is essentially anonymous. The phrase Riu, Riu, Chiu is equally as cryptic, though it is thought to be imitations of either a nightingale’s call or the flow of a river. The wolf and lamb mentioned in the chorus probably correspond either to Satan and Christ or Satan and Mary. The song teaches biblical truth about Jesus’ birth, but some of its many stanzas show the influence of folk superstition and some confused theology. We have chosen some of the best for our performance this evening.
Where Shepherds Lately Knelt, Jaroslav Vajda/Craig Courtney
Sing We Now of Christmas, Traditional, arr. Howard Helvey
