On Thursday & Friday, March 18 & 19, Indiana Christian Academy competed in the Indiana Association of Christian Schools Sr. High Academic and Fine Arts Meet held at Community Baptist School in South Bend. ICA captured the Class A Overall Winner trophy for the Academic Meet. In addition, ICA brought home three group Class A trophies in the area of music: Choral Group - 1st place; Band - 1st place; and Handbell Choir (Trent Ascher, Katie Bartlett, Wesley Brown, Ashlee Butgereit, Erika Keevin, Rachel Kollath, Aubreé Metzger, Deeanna Owen, Cody Parker, Rick Raison, Hannah Richwine & Jordan Strong) - 1st place superior. Other groups and individuals who placed in the music competition were Small Vocal Ensemble (Trent Ascher, Katie Bartlett, Erika Keevin & Rick Raison) - 3rd place; Large Vocal Ensemble (Trent Ascher, Katie Bartlett, Wesley Brown, Ashlee Butgereit, Krislyn Cleek, Kevin Gaither, Erika Keevin, Rachel Kollath, Aubreé Metzger, Tim Moody, Rick Raison & Jaron Sidwell) - 3rd place superior; Katie Bartlett (Brass Solo) - 1st place superior; Rachel Kollath (Woodwind Solo) 2nd place; Hannah Richwine (Classical Piano) - 2nd place; and Rachel Kollath (Organ Solo) - 3rd place.
Speech ribbon winners included Erika Keevin (Dramatic Interpretation) - 2nd place superior; Deanna Owen (Poetry Interpretation) - 1st place superior; and Katie Bartlettt (Humorous Interpretation) - superior rating.
Four students who placed in the area of Academic Testing were Brittany Roysden (Algebra/Geometry) - 3rd place; Rachel Kollath (Advanced Math ) - 2nd place; Malia Otto (US History/Geography) - 3rd place. Jordan Strong completes the list of ribbon winners by having taken 2nd place in Science Fair - Biochemistry.
The individuals and groups placing first at the state meet are eligible to compete at the American Association of Christian Schools National Academic & Fine Arts Meet at Bob Jones University in Greenville, SC, on April 13-15.
